In collaboration with Pima Community College’s Refugee Education Program (REP), the Literacy
Connects English Language Acquisition for Adults (ELAA) program is offering training sessions on June 23
and 30 for volunteers who teach or tutor English with low-literacy adults from refugee backgrounds.
This training will offer teaching strategies that help students develop receptive and oral English
language skills, as well as emerging reading and writing skills. This training is intended for volunteers or
community members who are already volunteering* with a refugee-focused volunteer organization.
This 2-day training will be held 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on June 23 and 30th at Literacy Connects, 200 E.
Yavapai Road. Ability to attend both days of this 2-day training is required. Fee for the training, which
includes training materials, is $30.
Register Online by Friday, June 13. Literacy Connects volunteers who work with refugee-background
students should contact ELAA program staff directly to register.
The training draws on presenters’ practical experience and relevant research into best practices for
teaching low-literacy adults from refugee backgrounds.
