The Native Education Alliance, in collaboration with Native Eyes, San Xavier Co-op Farm, San Xavier District, and The Loft Cinema, presents LandSpeaks, a FREE day-long family event connecting Native Language, Identity and Land.

The purpose of LandSpeaks is to provide opportunities to empower our youth with their families and to see how Native Languages express deep connections with culture, identity, and land. In addition, we are honoring our protectors and highlighting the work of water protectors at Standing Rock through a new film.

Although the event has FREE admission, donations are requested. Food / snacks will be available for purchase at the event throughout the day. Bottled water will be provided. Refillable water stations will be available. PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN CHAIR FOR THE EVENING SESSION to watch performances, hear a talk, and see the film.

The afternoon session will feature a panel of Native language speakers and water protectors. Invited Native language speakers will share their culture through their mother tongue. Invited water protectors will share their experience during their time at the Oceti Sakowin Camp (Sacred Stone Camp). There will be time for a Q&A session during panel discussion.

The evening portion features a Culture & Information Fair that will provide information to attendees on various issues effecting local tribal nations and the greater Tucson community. Join us for mini workshops on Organizing 101 and other topics. Listen to To Munsigo (Waila), see a Tohono O'odham Harvest dance, and other performances in honor of our protectors. Hear about local issues and how you can get involved to MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

The day will end with Native Eyes screening the film, «Awake: A Dream from Standing Rock» in an outdoor setting. AWAKE is a documentary that captures the story of the Native-led defiance that forever changed how we fight for clean water, our environment and the future of our planet. Directed by Josh Fox, James Spione, and Myron Dewey. MYRON DEWEY WILL JOIN US FOR A DISCUSSION FOLLOWING THE SCREENING!

Plan to join us at this momentous event! REMEMBER TO BRING A CHAIR.
