What Does Poetry Have to Do With Resistance? A Reading and Discussion on Wednesday, July 19th at 6:30 pm.
Join us for the Tucson-area launch of Resist Much/Obey Little, an anthology of poems gathered in response to the recent presidential inauguration. Come hear three local poets, Susan Briante, Farid Matuk and Reed Dickson, as they read and discuss their work. The publisher, Spuyten Duyvil Publishing, is donating 50% of the book’s proceeds to Planned Parenthood.
Susan Briante is the author of three books of poetry including her most recent book The Market Wonders, which was a finalist for the National Poetry Series. She is an associate professor of English and Creative Writing at the University of Arizona where she brings MFA students to the US-Mexico border to work with community-based environmental and social justice groups as well as to lead workshops with local high school students. She also produces and hosts the KXCI radio program Speedway and Swan.
Farid Matuk is the author of This Is a Nice Neighborhood, My Daughter La Chola and the forthcoming book of poems, The Real Horse (UA Press). Farid currently serves as a poetry editor for Fence and is also a contributing editor at The Volta. He is an assistant professor of English and Creative Writing at the University of Arizona.
Reed Dickson is working on his first novel and has poems included in this anthology and the forthcoming issue of Matter. He works in educational administration and teaches writing at Pima Community College.
